Versailles Middle School

On Tuesday, January 9th, the 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Parkway by a score of 37-21. Sophie Stammen led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Rowan Schmitmeyer with 9 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Allie Wietholter with 6 points, Lillian Selhorst, Ella Knapke, Alexis Francis, and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each and Korynn Bergman with 1 point.

On Tuesday, January 9th, the jr high wrestlers traveled to Covington with the high school team. Covington did not have a full line up, so several of the wrestlers received forfeits. Those forfeit points combined with some really good wins gave the Tigers a resounding victory. Versailles won the dual with a score of 67-24. The jr high wrestling team heads to Lima Shawnee on Saturday, January 13th.

Three Versailles junior high wrestlers were champions in their class at the Wapakoneta Invitational this past week.

Congratulations on being selected to be a member of the following VMS band students who were selected out of 400 nominations to perform in the 2024 Wright Stae University Middle School Honors Band Festival on February 16th and 17th, 2024! Naomi Swallow - Flute Junior High Alternate list - Alayna Bartram (Percussion) and Madelyn Farver (Flute)

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Can Food Drive, a total of 12,436 items were delivered to Council of Churches, the middle school results include: 3rd Place Mr. Luebke with 34.7 Cans Per Student Average 2nd Place Mrs. Whittaker-39.44 Cans Per Student Average 1st Place & winning the pizza party was Mr Keller homeroom with a 62.3 average. Again thank you to all the students and staff for their cooperation and support! What an awesome contribution to the community.

A Google survey was recently sent to your personal email address from our district EMIS Coordinator, Beth Simons. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce requires all Ohio districts to collect and report the data requested within the survey from recent graduates. This information provides a better understanding of what Ohio graduates go on to do after high school. Many of these data elements will also appear on our district's accountability reports (ie. local report card). If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the brief survey. Good evening TigerCountry, This is Superintendent Dave Harmon with an update from myself and on behalf of the Board of Education to the greater Versailles Community. The Board and I wanted to share with you openly and transparently a process that occurred just last night, Thursday, December 21, 2023 as the Board of Education interviewed two highly qualified candidates for the Interim Treasurer position. Current Treasurer Jackie Kremer has had her next career opportunity present itself. Mrs. Kremer notified the Board of the timing of that particular opportunity being that it is coming rather quickly. As a result, the Board quickly and decisively organized a search process with the goal of finding an Interim Treasurer to fill the role while it does a more exhaustive search for the long term Treasurer position that it will fill in the spring. The Mercer County Educational Service Center is helping with that particular long term search which will take several months and has just recently started with a statewide posting. In the interim, the Board was very blessed to interview two fine candidates last evening. Following those interviews the Board selected Lori Koch to serve as Interim Treasurer upon the conclusion of Mrs. Kremer’s time in the district. Ms. Koch has many years of fiscal management experience and specifically School District Treasurer experience as she was a local school district Treasurer for the last 13+ years of her career following extensive time at the Auditor of State’s office and being the Finance Director for the City of Vandalia. Following her retirement as a School Treasurer, she has since served several area school districts in both interim and fiscal consultant capacities. Ms. Koch will start her time working side by side with Mrs. Kremer over her last several days and will assume the role of Interim Treasurer upon Mrs. Kremer’s conclusion of service in the district. We want to thank Mrs. Kremer for her more than 20 years of service in the district and also to welcome Ms. Koch to the team. The Board and I thank you for placing your trust in our leadership as we continue to move the district forward in partnership with this amazing community. Thank you very much. This communication is to serve as public notice that the Versailles Board of Education intends to hold a Special Board of Education meeting on Thursday, December 21, 2023.  The meeting will take place at 5:30 PM at the Versailles Board of Education office, 459 S. Center Street, Versailles, Ohio 45380.   The purpose of the meeting is for the Board of Education to accept a revised letter of resignation in open session.   Following the Board's regular business, it will enter into an Executive Session where it will consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public employee or official, or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual, unless the employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual requests a public hearing by division (G)(1) of section 121.22 of the Revised Code. At the conclusion of the Executive Session, it is expected that the Board will return to open session to take further action before the meeting concludes. Thank you

On Saturday, December 16th, the Jr High wrestling team traveled to Vandalia for a quad meet. In their first dual, our Tigers beat Vandalia 50-16. The next match found our Tigers beating Miami East 43-30. To finish up the day, Versailles defeated Beavercreek 70-21. All of the wrestlers were able to get matches in, as there were a number of exhibition matches in addition to the dual meets. The Tigers will wrestle at home vs Sidney on Thursday, December 21st.

The Athletic Department is currently exploring other live-streaming options for the 2024-2025 school year. We will continue to use NFHS for the remainder of this school year. I'd recommend to NOT renew your NFHS subscription until a decision has been made.

The Ohio School Safety Center is holding a 2024 Severe Weather Poster Contest open to all Ohio students grades K-6. The contest is open and ends January 19th. If you’re interested in learning more, please email Mr. Hemmelgarn, and he will send you the link.

Congratulations to the 8th grade FFA members that placed 3rd overall in the District Novice Parliamentary Procedure contest. The team consisted of President-Cale Garland, Vice-President-Liam Barga, Secretary-Monica Evers, Treasurer-Margaret Schmitmeyer, Reporter-Alayna Dirksen, Sentinel-Drew Giesdendorff, Student Advisor-Skylyn Bradley and Member-Josh Henry. This team provided a 15 minute presentation and demonstration of how to conduct a business meeting. Congrats!!

Jr. high got to join forces with the high school band, with exposure to marching band.

Jr. high football made a good showing against Coldwater with 7th and 8th grade both picking up a win. Thanks to our cheerleaders for their support this season.
